Obsessive gardeners often turn out to be obsessive gardening book collectors. Taken to its logical conclusion this obsession will lead you to booksellers specialising in horticulture and even to antiquarian book dealers to ferret out those rare and out-of-print editions.

There are so many books published on the many facets of horticulture and gardening that the general purpose book shop cannot possibly stock more than a small selection. Specialist booksellers such as Gill Teague (featured on Gardening Australia ) stock books from all over the world, both old and new. His stock could include as many as 200 books on garden design, 15 books on conifers, 50 titles on plant hunting as well as books on particular genera such as Clematis, Fritillaria or Papaver. He also stocks antiquarian books, many of which are beautiful objects in their own right, with their detailed drawings, handmade paper, leather binding and guilt edges.
